Glossary of Shoe Styles

Alpargata A sandal with a closed back and cross stripping on the vamp.

Bal An oxford with a stitched vamp, front lacings, and the quarters meeting over a separate tongue.

Ballet Slipper A heelless soft leather or fabric dancer's shoe, sometimes having a metal toe piece.

Barefoot sandal A low-heel two-strap sandal with cut-outs in the vamp; popular for girls and children.

Blucher A half-boot or oxford, the upper meeting in two projecting flaps with no front seam.

Boot A high show, generally in heavy leather - as hiking boots.

Brogue A heavy oxfor with stitching, pinkings or perforation. (kalo di amrik jgua di bilang wingtips)

Chopine Wooden platform originally worn in Venice and shoe incorporating a high sole.

Clog Originally a wooden sole shoe; now a high platform.

Colonial Slipper A high-tongue shoe with a large buckle.

Congress Boot or Gaiter An elastized boot.

D'Orsay A pump with low, or open, sides.

Espadrille Rope soled, with a canvas upper, worn by women in the Mediterranean countries as a sports shoe. Popular now (1950s gituuu) in America.

Ghillie Of Scottish derivation, an open-type oxford lacing from vamp to instep with a tasseled cord.

Huarache A low-heeled woven sandal.

Jodhpur A high d'Orsay pump.

Moccasin A slipper having the sole and vamp in one piece, with a sewed toe and with a simple lacing or strap.

Monk An oxford type with the plain toe and strap fastening with a buckle.

Mule A house slipper without quarter or back.

Oxford A low laced shoe, fastening at the instep.

Pump A simple low-cut shoe with out fastening.

Sabot A wooden shoe originally from Holland.

Saddle An Oxford with contrasting leather across the instep.

Sandal The simplest form of footwear: a sole with fastening of leather or fabric.

Sling Pump An open- or closed-toe pump having no quarter but having a strap fastening around the heel.

Spat An ankle covering with side closing, generally made in fabric.

Spectator A type of pump generally made with a built-up leather heel with tip and foxing of contrasting leather.

Wedgie A slipper with wedgelike heel that extends below the instep. (kalau sekarang wedges aja kali ya?)
